Lyon, of this city, to Miss Holderman, of Nashville, as follows: "The engagement and approaching marriage of Miss Mary Holderman and James Henry: Roberts, was announced last evening at a dance given by the members of the Comus club for the popular young people, who are great social favorites. in Nashville. The Interesting announcement came as a complete surprise to the entire company with the excep; tion of the two young men who arranged details for the surprise announcement, which was made in a very clever fashion. A district messenger boy brought in a large number of telegrame, the names of each guest being inscribed on an envelope, and these telegrams contained duplicate announcements of the Holderman wedding, which will take place on December 21 at the home of the bride's parents; Mr.

and Mrs. C. V. Holderman. Rev.

J. H. Roberts, father of the groom, will perform the marriage ceremony and will be assisted by Rev, C. R. Nisbet, pastor of the Woodland Street Presbyterian church.

A purple and gold register of guests, kept as a souvenir for the attractive young bride-elect, was a feature of the occasion. The club rooms for the dance were lavishly decorated with palms, ferns and chrysanthemums, An "orchestra statoned behind a screen of palms played the dance music. Frappe was served during the intermissions and at midnight a buffet supper was served." Missionary Meeting. The Junior Warden Missionary soclety will have its regular meeting for November on Saturd4y lat 3 o'clock at the Broadway Methodist church. All the members are to be present, Herring -Robertson.

The marriage of Miss Alice Gertrude Herring, of Kuttawa, and Mr. G. L. Robertson was quietly yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Cairo in the parlors of the Halliday house, the Rev. Mr.

Mr. Robertson Is an engineer on the Illinois Central railroad and a popular young man. Mr. and Mrs. Robertson will reside in Paducah.

Dance for Football Visitors, The High School boys will entertain with a dance this evening at the Three Links building, in compliment to the football teams and the visitors. Thanksgiving Day Marriage, Mr. Ray V. Herne and Miss Small both of Marion, were married at the parsonage of the Broadway Methodist church on North Seventh street by the Rev.

G. T. Sullivan Thursday afternoon at o'clock. A few friends accomanied the couple here. They returned to Marion this morning.

Wedding Supper. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Hicks entertained last night at their home. Twenty-ninth and Tennessee streets, with 'a wedding supper.

The house was prettily decorated for the occasion and a number of friends were present during the eveding. Kalosophic Club. The -Kalosophic club met this morning in regular session at the Woman's club house. The program was an interesting one as follows: 1. The Romance of Ethel Morrow.

Pearson-Vandevelde Reception, Mr. and Mrs. B. Vandevelde entertained most delightful at their home, 1209 South Seventh street, in. honor of their son, Russell, and his bride, who arrived early this morning, the house being most tastefully decoratfor the occasion.

He is a young man of fine qualities and sterling worth and enjoys the good will and confidence of a large number of friends, who wish him and his bride a full measure of happiness, Mr. and Mrs. Vandevelde will be at home to their friends at Mrs. L.

Wilding, In Dyersburg, November 28. Miss Estelle Strong passed through the city today en route from a visit in Hickman to St. Louis. Miss Lula Hargis, head nurse at Riverside hospital, is expected to return tonight from after. spending her vacation with relatives.
